Kendi and Hep in Turkish: Self and All

kendi means self. With the possessive endings it points back at the subject: kendim (myself), kendin (yourself), kendisi (himself, herself), kendimiz, kendiniz, kendileri. Kendime bir çay yapıyorum (I am making myself a tea).

It also stresses who does the thing: Ödevi kendim yapıyorum (I do the homework myself). Bare kendi before a possessed noun means own: kendi odam (my own room).

hep with the possessive endings means all of: hepimiz (all of us), hepiniz (all of you), hepsi (all of them, or all of it). On its own hep means always: Hep geç kalıyor.
