Five things to know about Turkish
- One letter, one sound
- Turkish is written in the Latin alphabet with 29 letters, and almost every letter always sounds the same. Learn the six new ones (ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş, ü) and you can read any word aloud.
- Endings follow the vowels
- A suffix changes its vowel to match the word it joins: ev becomes evler, kitap becomes kitaplar. That rule is vowel harmony, and it runs through the whole language.
- Words are built from pieces
- One word can carry what English says in a phrase: ev, evler, evlerim, evlerimde, "in my houses". Learn the pieces and the rule that joins them, and long words start reading themselves.
- The verb comes last
- A Turkish sentence usually ends with its verb: Ben Türkçe öğreniyorum, "I am learning Turkish", is word for word "I Turkish am-learning".
- No gender, no articles
- There is no word for "the", nothing is masculine or feminine, and o means he, she or it.

Turkish is agglutinative: meaning stacks onto the end of a word, and vowel harmony reshapes each piece so it fits the one before it. A flashcard deck answers that by making a new card for every form, so you memorize five entries and still stall on the sixth. Learn the join once and the forms stop being separate work.

Why does Dilsever teach only Turkish?
Because Turkish rewards tools built for it. A word is a root with suffixes stacked on it, and vowel harmony reshapes each suffix. An app for many languages shares one format across them; Dilsever follows Turkish instead, with a suffix builder, rule-based verb drills and review schedules for suffixes and verbs as well as words.
Is Turkish hard to learn?
It is different more than it is hard. Spelling is regular, nothing is masculine or feminine, and the endings follow fixed rules. What takes time is the word order, with the verb at the end, and words built from several suffixes. Both get easier once you learn the pieces instead of whole words.
How long does it take to learn Turkish?
The U.S. Department of State expects about 44 weeks, or 1,012 class hours, of full-time study for an English speaker to reach a professional level. That figure is for a professional level, not a first conversation, and it gives no estimate for an hour a day on your own.
Can I learn Turkish for free?
Yes, to a point. The alphabet, the numbers and 6 full grammar lessons are free on this site with no account. A free account adds practice for those lessons, and Pro opens every lesson.
How do you say hello and thank you in Turkish?
Hello is merhaba. Thank you is teşekkür ederim, or teşekkürler among friends. Both are in the free greetings lesson, with audio.
Do I need a course or a textbook?
No. The A1, A2, B1 and B2 packs are built on the CEFR levels and taught in their own order, so they sit alongside a class if you are taking one. If you are not, the library, the labs, and practice all work on their own.
Does this replace a teacher?
No, and it is not trying to. Dilsever is built for the hours between lessons. The AI tutor is the practice partner for those hours: it already knows your words, your grammar progress and your recent mistakes.
What happens to the words I add?
They stay yours. We do not sell your data, and we share it only with the service providers listed in our Privacy Policy. A deletion request through the contact page deletes your account and learning records, except records the law requires us to keep.
Is there a mobile app?
Not yet: a mobile app is in the works. For now, open Dilsever in your phone’s browser. The whole site is designed for phones as well as computers, and on supported devices you can add it to your home screen.
Which languages does the interface speak?
Russian, English and Arabic. Word meanings can be stored in several languages at once, separately from the interface.
How is grammar taught?
As 103 short lessons from A1 to B2, each with a practice block and a mastery check. Most topics also carry a folded cheat sheet, and every topic has its own practice, a lab drill or fill-in sentences.
How is the AI tutor different from ChatGPT?
The Dilsever tutor uses your word list, grammar progress and recent error categories to guide a Turkish conversation. It offers one correction per reply and a relevant lesson link when available. A completed session credits XP and your streak.
