Turkish Personal Pronouns: ben, sen, o

Six words stand for the people in a sentence: ben (I), sen (you), o (he, she, it), biz (we), siz (you, plural or polite), onlar (they). Turkish has no he/she split: o covers both, and things too.

You will meet each pronoun in two shapes. The plain form is the subject: Ben öğrenciyim. The owner form ends in -im / -in (benim, senin, onun, bizim, sizin, onların) and says whose: benim evim.

In everyday speech the subject pronoun is usually left out, because the ending on the verb or noun already says who: Öğrenciyim on its own means I am a student. Say the pronoun when you want to stress or contrast it.
