Turkish Negation: değil and -me, -ma

Turkish says not in two different ways, and the choice depends on one question: is the word a verb? A noun or adjective is denied with the separate word değil after it: Ben öğrenci değilim. Bu ev büyük değil.

A verb is denied inside itself, with the suffix -me / -ma right after the stem and before the tense: gel → gelmiyorum, bak → bakmıyorum. The suffix follows two-way harmony: -me after e, i, ö, ü and -ma after a, ı, o, u.

değil takes the personal endings itself (değilim, değilsin, değiliz), and the noun before it stays bare. var has its own negative, yok: Param var → Param yok.
